Polar Owl Amigurumi PDF Pattern

This little snowy owl started as a custom keychain for a friend of mine who absolutely loves owls. She’s especially fond of animals that manage to be both adorable and a bit serious-looking. We looked through different kinds of owls together and eventually decided a snowy owl would be the perfect choice. We both agreed she was the prettiest one of them all (and honestly, I still think we had a point!). I loved her so much that I decided to turn the design into a crochet pattern, too, so other bird lovers like you can make their own little snowy friend🌟

The pattern uses white yarn as the main color, with black feathers crocheted in at random points throughout the rows to give the plumage a more natural, slightly speckled look. You don’t have to follow the color changes too strictly if you’re comfortable with random colorwork. Simply place the black stitches and loops as you go, and let your owl’s feather pattern turn out a little differently.

🧶You will need:

• 1 skein of Dolce Baby Yarnart yarn, color 741 (white) (In case you can’t find it, look for a similar Worsted weight yarn. The yarn I used is 85m/50g, 1,76oz/92,96yds, 100% micro polyester)
• 1 skein of color 742 (black) of the same yarn
• Stuffing
• 5mm hook
• Scissors
• Needle (optional, I prefer to sew and embroider with my hook when it comes to plush yarn)
• Lighter/matches to burn the yarn tails (please, be careful!)
• Stitch markers (optional)
• One pair of 12mm safety eyes (or yarn scraps of any color you want to embroider them)
• Non-plush black yarn scraps to make the ear tufts (plush tufts will wear faster).

This pattern is written in US crochet terms. Stitches used:

• ch – chain
• slst – slip stitch
• mr – magic ring
• sc – single crochet
• inc – increase
• dec – decrease
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

⚙Skill level – advanced beginner / intermediate. This pattern is best suited for crocheters who are already comfortable working in the round and making basic amigurumi shapes. The colorwork process is explained in detail in the pattern, but if you’re new to it, it may require some patience.

The finished owl is soft, cozy, and just about as big as a keychain can be while still not getting in the way on your bag. She’s fun to crochet for yourself or as a cute handmade gift for your constantly-birdwatching friend.
