I originally made this coaster for my older sister🐼, who wanted me to teach her how to crochet. I figured a small, quick project like this would be a great place to start — and a chance to practice a few different stitches and stitch combinations. So if you’re a beginner who wants to try a variety of stitches but isn’t quite sure where to use them, this could be a fun project for you too! What started as a little practice piece for my sister is now available here as a free pattern for you to try.

🧶Materials and tools
- weight 1 light pink yarn or any other color you want (i’ve used Alize Superwash Artisan, color 161),
- 4 mm hook,
- yarn needle,
- scissors,
- stitch marker.
This pattern is written in US crochet terms. Stitches used:
- mr – magic ring,
- ch – chain,
- slst – slip stitch,
- sc – single crochet,
- hdc – half double crochet,
- dc – double crochet,
- tr – treble crochet,
- puff stitch – 5 unfinished hdc crocheted together,
- bubble stitch – 5 unfinished dc crocheted together,
- treble bubble stitch – 3 unfinished tr crocheted together.
⚙Skill level – beginner. You can learn basic crochet stitches as you go.
